VIOLINLAND RESOURCE PAGE
The Wonderful World of the Violin
- Connie's Violin Page Connie's Violin pages are among the best presented and most informative to be found anywhere on the web. I am proud to count Connie Sunday as my friend and have always found her ready to help for the benifit of the violin community.
- Sheila's Corner Shiela's Corner is a great resource for both teachers and students alike. It is also one the most beautifully designed web sites you will find on the Internet today.
- Jose Sanchez Violin Site This is another of the webs great violin sites. There is information too numerous to detail here. But outstanding is the "Discography of Violins used on Recordings (a collaboration between Cheniston K Roland and Jose Sanchez)together with a definitive discography of Carl Flesch again a collaboration between Jose and I.)
- The World Violinist Links Page Akiko Kose's web site is the best if you are looking for a list of the worlds great violinists home pages. Violinland is more than pleased to be associated with her site and has in the past supplied information to help make it the most definitive of its kind.
- Violink One of the oldest violin sites on the Internet, and is without doubt one of the best and most reliable available today...so much information and so useful.
Violin Makers of Distinction
- Roberto Regazzi of Bologna Go to Roberto Regazzi's shop and he will let you play one of his beautiful violins when you arrive there. Regazzi is regarded by many as one of Italy's greatest violin makers. I have played several of his violins while in his shop in Bologna, and was impressed with both the fine workmanship and the marvellous sound they produced. The varnish and colour he uses produce a the most ravishing finnish to his violins.
- Jack Bell of Chicago Here you will find a perfect copy of one of the world's greatest Strads.- Baron Knoop (1715) - it even sounds the same..When you have had the ultimate experience of playing one of Jack Bell's violins you will never need to buy another Strad in your life.
- Marcello Villa e Vittorio Villa di Cremona title The brothers Villa of Cremona make beautiful violins in the true Cremonese tradition. I am sure when you look at these pictures of their fine workmanship you will immediately want to play them.
- Bowmaker's Guide This site is maintained by Andreas Gruetter, a bowmaker from the Netherlands whose aim is delivering quality to his world-wide clientele. His website is really a short education manual about bows. This site contains information on the differences between violin, viola, cello and bass bows, types of wood used in bowmaking, strength distribution in bows, and response. The manual comprises of 10 chapters that are very well written and illustrated. It might help to print out the information.
Violinists of Distinction
- Rachel Barton Of the younger violinists on the American concert platform today, Rachel Barton is without doubt one of the most outstanding. She is rapidly establishing a brilliant career for herself, and is notable for adding new or neglected works to her repertoire, many of which she has recorded. Snatches of these recordings can be heard on her home page.
- Misha Keylin "Poet of the Violin" would be the only way to describe Misha Keylin's delicate and lyrical style. While he is the possessor of a dazzling technique it always remains subservient to the music. It would be true to say that his playing posses qualities seldom found in many of today's young violinists. You can hear him playing on his home page.
Violin - Prime resources.
- DW3 Classical Music Resauces - Duke University DW3 tells us it is the most comprehensive collection of classical music resources on the Web with links to more than 1,400 non-commercial pages and sites. Some sites in foreign languages are also included. The site is created by Yale Fineman, who is User Services Librarian at the music library at Duke University in the USA. When you have perused these pages, you will have some idea of how busy Mr.Fineman must be putting all of this together.
- John Krakenberger - Essays in String Pedagogy This is a web site that no serious string player should miss. These essays, which are pertinent to both players and pedagogues alike are extremely well written. Krakenberger, himself a pedagogue and violist in a string quartet for over 20 years, has committed to paper many of the unanswered questions about such topics as the students syllabus and use of vibrato. These very important contributions to string pedagogy are also available in Spanish and German.
Violin Books Magazines CDs etc.
- Montagnana Books There can be no doubt that this is the definitive violin book site. Even if you cannot afford any of the books at the moment it is still the best site for information on books, programmes, signatures and violin ephemera.
- Encyclopaedia of the Violin - (Multimedia Edition) Editors: Emmanuel Jaeger, (violinist and conductor) Frederic Laurent (journalist and audiovisual producer) and Jean-Michel Molkhou (music critic for "Diapason" magazine and contributor to "The Strad" magazine) Probably the best bargain to be found with so much information about the violin. The CD benefits from both expertise and planning and should be in every violinists CD drawer. I strongly recommend purchasing a copy today. Jean-Michel Molkhou is well known for his writings on the violin and his exhaustive discographies published from time to time by the Strad Magazine.
